    BF3 - Competitive Play? Empty BF3 - Competitive Play?

Post  Rebbu Wed Jan 25, 2012 10:29 am

    Hi guys,

I've been posting around at a few forums, and getting in touch with some other guys, and we're thinking of starting something like a competitive gaming league in NZ. We're looking to start off small with some competitions and a tournament for a few different games, and it seems like BF3 is something that people would be interested in playing competitively for cash/prizes.

I was just wondering how many people here would be interested? We haven't decided if it's going to be Aus & NZ, or NZ only, but to start off all the games would be played online (hoping to get enough interest/sponsorship to run events every 3-4 months). We're looking at running a few tournaments in the next few months to kick it off, so any feedback is appreciated.

We're also looking at running Halo Reach, StarCraft2, and League of Legends.

Thanks for the replies - what's the best gametype for BF3 to play in a competition/tournament that would attract a high number of interest. It would be good if we had like, 12 - 16 teams (4 man teams) for a tournament.

We'll start getting a website, forum and FB page up shortly.

Yeah definately dude. we can even enter more than one team if its only a squad team but i think if you can get enough you should have teams of 8 players per side. there is a lot of oceanic clans with scrim teams of 8 players that could be keen.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yeah that's cool - we'll see what the majority wanna see (8v8 or 4v4), and go from there. We're thinking of running a Tournament which spans 11 weeks or so (or a Season).

The first 10 weeks is the Pool play qualifiers, where teams are placed into pools and earn points from a weekly battle. The qualifiers may be split into two sections - an open pool section where all players are placed into random pools. The second section is split into two tiers, with the top half of each pool from the Open section moving into the Pro Tier Pools, and the bottom into the Semi-Pro Tier Pools.

The two tiers are the progressed independently, with the top 8 teams from each pool (at the end of the 10th week) moving into their respective finals rounds. Finals will then be a single/double elim style tournament. There will be a first/second/third for the Pro tier, and another for the Semi-Pro tier.

This means that all teams that register will play through the entire 10 week period, and it also divides the field into half (Pro and Semi-Pro).

We're also looking at running Ladders during the season, weekly competitions and in future, LAN events. Weekly competitions would only last an afternoon/night, and might just be a single elim tournament.

We're currently looking into sponsorship for prizes etc, and some tournaments may incur a $10pp entrant fee, but we haven't made any firm decisions yet.

If anyone is interested in helping, or providing any kind of advice/feedback, please PM me as I would like as much input from the various gaming communities as possible.

    Thanks
