Been about 3.5 yrs since my last baby, a Dell XPS 720, which i cant easily mod....Grrrr

I want to have a machine that is a BF3/Skyrim/potentially up to 5 years future proof machine.
    I also do rendering etc.

Im not so sure of the need of the mobo or if theres same for cheaper?
But it has an on-board creative sound card - will it do? rated for 5.1/7.1.
Also the RAM, may be a lil ott, but still.
And i guess i could skimp on the second GPU.

some parts differ in price from others around, but getting all parts from the same retailer
is more convenient will level out in the end me thinks....

any tips for compatibility, overall setup etc? im no tech head. pirat

You could probably buy one 6970 and be fine playing games for a few years, you can always add another card if it becomes not enough. Other than that, looking pretty good.

You may want to get gaming keyboard and mouse if you don't have already

yup, thought of that, but figure spreading the workload across the 2 cards instead of the one card for the same price would be better...

    kb n mouse are sorted.

haha, troll much? went with a sapphire 6850 about 3 months ago after my 8800GTX died. has been excellent so far?
nvidea are far too expensive for the gigs radeon offer. simple.

but it is all about performance - so havent ruled nvidia completely out yet....

Honestly Dump the Case and Cooler I would find something from Lian Li for your case and i would get a either the Coolermaster V8 or the V10 for the cooler as the Frio has some comments on being over plasticy or even better yet look at the new Corsair H80 or H100 and get some simple self contained liquid cooling.

Personally i would skip the Intel chip as well and go with one of the new AMDs that are about to be released (8cores anyone?) you will find they will work so much easier with the ATI cards and save some coin.

yeah the cm haf was my other choice, and didnt mind the curves in the nzxt.

also my other choice for cpu hsf, was a noctua NH-U12P @ $89..... heard its some great stuff.
was a lil less for the frio @ $85, and was 'rated' for oc.
i agree the frio has too much (what looks flimsy when handled) plastic.

electricity and water cooling scares me, dont know how much maintenance is involved at all.

will have a closer look at the amd's, didnt know new ones were coming out.
no plans for noew intel till 2012 it seems.
    back to the drawing board

    Imo.

Hold off on purchasing a new PC as late as possible (right before BF3 is released).

There will be new hardware comming out.

The prices on current hardware will drop too.

Essentially, if your PC can handle the games you run atm, then hold on till BF3.

But those specs you posted are pretty much the desired hardware for gaming atm.

The corsair H series are really good.

I currently use the H50, which requires no maintenance at all and keeps the temp down while playing games or overclocking. It's a simple set up, 2 fan power plugs (One for the pump and one for the fan) and you are away. Pretty much plug and play lol.

The pre-assembled units are great. Im using an ECO A.L.C, keeps my PC cool 'n' quiet.
