    http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=nz&cs=nzdhs1&l=en&s=dhs&sku=230-12093&redirect=1

$379 (norm $500, some shops in auckland sell for as low as $450 ish)

    Dell Ultrasharp U2412M.
    1920x1200 24"
e-IPS (much better than standard TN panels)

Monitors default settings are very good, however for optimal, there are available tweak settings on the internet.

Monitor has a solid feel to it, not cheap & nasty.
Very customizable, can be adjusted for height, left/right and up & down.

An LED LCD IPS panel for $379 is a steal.

For those that dont know the difference between TN, IPS & MVA panels:

-TN: Cheap (cost wise) & nasty, small viewing range (notice that when you look on an angle colours change). Some TN panels are capable of 120hz. TN panels have slightly less grey to grey delay. (5ms vs 6-8ms for IPS *unnoticable imo*)

-IPS: Expensive, way better colours, very wide viewing angle. Not available in 120hz.

-MVA: Cost between IPS & TN. Better colours than TN. Often has better blacks than most IPS. Not available in 120hz *from what I know* Good balance between cost & quality.

What's the advantage of having an LED monitor? (c.f. LCD).

    Is just about power consumption?

No real benefit apart from power saving. They are in fact the same screen with the only difference being that LED is back-lit by LED's and LCD is lit by fluorescent tube lights. In a perfect world you would choose plasma IF it didn't have the drawback of burning an image into it.

    Not quite.

While plasma does boast better colours than LCD. The gap is narrowing every year.
Plasma screens are not as sharp as LCD which is why LCD has triumphed plasma quite quickly.

    Advantages of LED:

    -Lower power consumption.
    -Longer backlight life.
-More accurate colour / lighting. (disputable, as some low end LEDs actually perform worse than CCFL (Florescent), some simply prefer CCFL over LED regardless due to personal taste / colour / lighting desired.)

The cheap monitors are the ones that burn your eyes and make gaming not very fun.
