New Forum Ideas (Contribution Wanted !)

@ any graphic designers in SoV that would like to help.

Please make some concepts. (try not to go overboard, we dont want you wasting too much time incase a different design is chosen)


Things to think about:

-Theme (games we play, clan name, colours, fonts, 3D effects)
-Graphics (compression *keep it lowish bandwidth consumption if possible*, size)
-Banner (emblem, symbolic, more than just text preferably)

@ everyone else (can include graphic designers).

-What do YOU want in this forum ? (simplicity, email accounts (if possible), storage ?, uploads, facebook integration (this is possible), smilies, widgets)

-Any other extras ? (forum rooms, chatbox, privileges, badges, points or rep system, portal)

Just a side note. If you see any forums out there that you really like or features that would be useful. Feel free to link sites in here and show us examples.



This new site will be SoVs new home.
I have already purchased the domain, hdifen can provide us a free server + server bandwidth, and SARS has donated the forum software.




Input from the clan is desired as we want our new home to be simply... awesome !

I will work with the council, graphic designers and everyone involved to work out what we can and cannot implement.

OK well I think that we can safely call ourselves BF3 clan, and though we do play other games, the website should be heavily BF3 themed.

My idea: New logo!

- More modern looking logo that loosk 3D-ish or maybe a gif logo
- Should have the colour red in it

i don't mind having a fancy banner but the rest should be simple and clean, after all a forum is there for us to communicate with each other, not some kind of show and shine competition

LOL that is powered using wordpress. We were going to use that, but the issue was getting myBB to work nicely with it + the extra integrations we wanted to do.

Vbulletin was easier in the end.

despite the difference, surely a similar layout can still be achieved ?
btw the banner on the linked site is in rotation, maybe we can do something along the same lines.

We definitely need a Server Status page which also has important information on it and also a Scrim Info page so people don't need to go looking around 10 different posts to find a bit of info.

yeah a scrim members info section! split into 2 maybe, a GA/competitive and a friendly section. inside is a calendar with upcomming training/matches with a forum bit under?

Um perhaps. We are going to look at this.


We wont know till we go to implement.

I'd like to see jimieus and maybe senior as well given permission to administrate the scrim/training sub-section on the new forums. they're always proactively coming up with strategies and ideas for game play to help improve the skill base of the ladder team.

the two of them from my understanding have a wealth of experience and knowledge in terms of competitive gaming, allowing them this opportunity will reduce the time from idea to implementation. this can only be beneficial to the team and improve our chances on the battlefield

yes, more moderators on the forum will be on the agenda, will be discussed with the Council.

scrim history
front page server rules
member list - for clan not forum.
possibly a weekly calender that is perm across top of page for members.

if we are showing the vent channel do we need to see who is on forums?

i checked out many bf3 clan sites for ideas.... those were the best i find that we havn't already got.
out of all the sites this best, easiest to follow. Alot of sites get a bit carried away with infomation overload.

not saying we need all that but there are some ideas, some of it might just be moving info off the forums onto a page but imo it looks more professional. Im not sure if that is what you guys are doing though? are we upgrading forums or upgrading the whole 'thing'?

I've got some ideas to i guess.

- Forum moderators for each section. E.g Recruitment section, battlefield 3 section.
- Have a website portal, which has the clan logo and maybe some videos of the clan, then you may enter via a button onto the main page.
- A clan calender with upcoming events !
- Updated + more variety of ribbons, badges etc. for the forum members, e.g Top score in a scrim challenge twice gives you a badge next to your forum name or something (:
- More open layup, everything looks forced in the forum atm.
